Proposed Research

This statement should outline as clearly as possible the research you plan to do on the fellowship. While you probably do not already know the exact subject of your doctoral dissertation, you must give the impression that you have a very clear research agenda.

Think about:

What questions will you investigate?
What research methodologies will you use?
What conclusions do you expect to draw?
Why is this research important? How does it contribute to your field?

It is extremely important to make a strong case about why your proposed research institution is an ideal location for the graduate research that you describe. In this section, you are persuading the selection committee that you are a skilled research who has a clear, compelling research agenda that is best served at a particular institution.

Identify the specific faculty mentors you will work with, the labs, archives, or ongoing projects that you will use or participate in, and any research centers, research groups, or other resources that you will have access to at your proposed institution to enhance your research.

Also consider training you might receive from faculty members in other departments who can help you refine your research skills.
